Chita System Customers,

January 30, 2026

We want to take a moment to address the comments and concerns regarding the discoloration of water some of you are experiencing. We completely understand how frustrating this situation is, and we appreciate your patience while we work through it.

As mentioned in a previous message, the discoloration is the result of a large number of recent leak repairs that required portions of the system to be drained. When a groundwater system is drained and then refilled, naturally occurring minerals specifically iron and manganese can be stirred up from inside the pipes. This is what is causing the water to appear discolored.

While the water may look unpleasant, iron and manganese are common minerals found in groundwater and are not harmful to your health at the levels typically seen in situations like this. The issue is aesthetic, not a safety concern, and it will resolve as the system stabilizes.

We are actively flushing the main water lines to clear the system. Please do NOT attempt to flush your plumbing at home at this time, as doing so will not help until the main lines are running clear. Flushing now will only pull more discolored water into your home. Once the main lines are clear, we will advise you when it is appropriate to flush household lines or hot water heaters if needed.

Please know that this work is being done carefully and intentionally. We are continuing to flush the system in sections, as flushing too aggressively would risk taking the system offline again and putting us back at square one. This approach allows us to restore clear water while maintaining service.

We did not cause this issue intentionally and are doing everything in our power to correct it as quickly and responsibly as possible. Thank you again for your patience and understanding as we complete this process.

We will continue to provide updates as progress is made.

CHITA CUSTOMERS – IMPORTANT WATER NOTICE

January 29, 2026

We are aware that some customers are experiencing discolored water. This is due to the large number of leaks we have recently repaired, which drained portions of the system. As the system refills and stabilizes, iron and manganese have been stirred up, causing discoloration.

The discoloration is not harmful, but we understand it is unpleasant.

Our tanks are finally recovering from the water loss, and we will be continuing our flushing program to clear the discolored water from the system.

⚠️ DO NOT WASH CLOTHES AT THIS TIME.
A Boil Water Notice remains in effect for the ENTIRE CHITA SYSTEM, and washing clothes may result in staining.

We appreciate your patience and will provide updates as conditions improve.
